On Friday, November 12th, 2010, the nurse recruitment department had the pleasure of hosting Lori Bruhns, Professional Planner for Everyday Tidy, LLC at our department retreat. Lori was able to provide the staff with valuable time management tips and tailor her responses to the individual needs of the department. I was especially pleased with Lori’s ability to tie time management in to our pirate theme for the day. Lori handed out eye patches, and had each member describe how they felt, then related their responses back to how we feel when we are disorganized. I felt Lori’s ability to control her environment and teach other how to do so, was both inspiring and powerful. She personified positivity and structure and was able to offer many valuable time saving tips for us to use when returning to our very busy work environment.
I came to Lori in need of a lot of help! I am a new resident of NC and a new employee at a local university. I manage a department that operates 24/7/365 and I am always on call. As if my job doesn’t keep me busy enough, in the next 6 months I am building a new house, moving, planning a wedding, and getting married. Lori gave me some good suggestions about how to cope. She recommended that I arrange my staffing schedule in such a way that I can stay late or come in early on certain days of the week to spend 1-on-1 time with each of my employees and see all of them at least twice a month. She also recommended “checking in” with my staff and doing performance evaluations over the phone since many people in my department live far away from work and have odd schedules. Lori advised me to go ahead and start preparing for my move now, and she suggested using different colors to mark boxes that go in different rooms. She told me to make a list of all items I put in each box and put the list on top so it’s the first thing I see when I start to unpack. Lori said I should reach out to an event planner in Utah to help coordinate things for my wedding and ask friends and family to help me out when I have too much on my plate or I’m having difficulty making decisions. She advised that my fiancée and I get a checklist and timeline from our home builder and take turns checking on the construction progress of our new house. She stressed how important it was for he and I to focus on the quality of our time together away from work, and she recommended we make an effort to do something special like take a walk or play Scrabble instead of doing things like watching tv without talking. Lori’s enthusiasm is contagious and she has a special way of connecting with people. Talking with her for the first time felt like catching up with an old friend. I really appreciated her suggestions and encouragement; and instead of feeling anxious about the rest of 2013, now I’m looking forward to all the exciting things that are happening in my life.
I’m a business owner / entrepreneur and Before working with Lori, I was frustrated with my business, felt stagnant and uninspired. Working with Lori weekly via FaceTime helped me to identify my ideal clients , gain clear focus on my goals and create a realistic and inspiring plan to achieve them ! I now have the skill set to design my days and weeks to create my dream business
Summit’s weekly managers meeting has been taking place for years, and once began as a way to motivate each other, share successes along with the challenges, and to keep communication open within the company. Somehow along the way, it had turned into an over-extended meeting lacking real structure, accountability and motivation. So we called on the expertise of Lori Bruhn’s to help us get motivated and realize once again the purpose of the meeting! Lori came in with her energetic personality and took control. She emphasized being respectful of each other’s time (which is often overlooked in our own busy lives), scheduling your calendar to include not only work, but your “life” as well, time management, organization, and gave us ideas to structure our weekly meeting. Her tips and advice have carried over since she came in May of 2015. We now have structure, accountability, and meaningful discussions. The meetings have gone from hours to minutes, and everyone looks forward to attending again!
“You would be proud of us at Active Healthcare, we were listening! Team members started implementing your suggestions as soon as your presentation finished. The first suggestion put into place was emailing each other to schedule time to go over items; it is proving a successful process to cut down on interruptions. Several of our team members implemented your idea of color-coding their filing system. My personal favorite is keeping a list of issues I need to go over with a person, so now I don’t interrupt them each time something crosses my mind that requires their input! Your positive and encouraging approach was very inspiring; it was just what we needed to get moving towards an effective time management plan. Thank-you in a BIG WAY for your time helping us make the most of our time!”
